Registration of Community design

System of the Community design implements a unified legal system, which ensures its uniform and stable protection in all member states of the European Union.
Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market (OHIM) in Alicante city, Spain consider applications for registration of a Community design. Community design may be registered if it is new and has individual character.
The holder of a registered Community design has the exclusive right to use and to prohibit third parties from using or storing products whose design does not create a different overall impression. A registered Community design protection period is 5 years from the date of filing. This period may be extended for four periods in low From five years up to twenty-five years.


Who can apply for registration?
Any natural or legal person From any country no world may apply. Persons who have no permanent address, location, actual production or commercial establishment in the European Union are not required to be represented, to apply for registration with the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market, but at a later stage of the mission will be required.

Submit only one application
Unitary character of the Community design is expressed in the simplification of formalities in low registration and mode of action:
• single application for protection in all Member States of the European Union
• single language of filing;
• a single administrative authority;
• the possibility of submitting multiple applications, ie to include several designs in one application;
• Only pay for protection in all countries of the EC npi "reduction" system of charges depending on the number of designs in multiple applications;
• ability to delay public disclosure of the design.
